TIDESWELL - local attractions & the Peak District

The village of Tideswell stands in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Famous for its fine church dedicated to St John the Baptist, known as "The Cathedral of the Peak", the village is also noted for its well dressing and carnival wakes.

There is excellent walking and outdoor pursuits including climbing and cycling on the Monsal Trail with rugged peaks to the north, gentle hills and dales to the south and Millers Dale just outside the village. Beautiful Monsal Dale, Mam Tor, Castleton, Chatsworth and Bakewell are only a few miles away and the popular spa town of Buxton is within a 15 minute drive.

Tideswell has many fine country inns and excellent restaurants, a chemist, butchers, co-op, greengroccers, bakers and much more.‚Äč Brand new to the village for 2016 (walking distance) is The Merchant's Yard restaurant & cocktail bar where informal, fine-dining can be enjoyed.

The Peak District itself affords 555 square miles of action-packed fun and breathing spaces for the visitor. With the iconic gritstone edges of Stanage, Curbar, Froggatt, Baslow and Derwent all within easy reach of Merman farm, the climbers and walkers among you will be thrilled with miles of pathways, and adventure just waiting to be discovered. Throw in the waters of Ladybower, Derwent and Howden (known as our 'little Lake District'), the stately homes of Chatsworth, Haddon and Lyme Park and you'll get a clue as to what awaits your visit to the UK's oldest National Park.
